A new civil terminal is to be built at the Afghan military airport at Tarin Kowt. The construction will be funded by the Netherlands and Germany, and if all goes according to plan, the new facilities will be ready in June 2011. The terminal will handle 150 passengers per hour and should meet the needs of Uruzgan’s air passengers for at least ten years to come.

The European Union is imposing further sanctions on Iran because of its continued refusal to comply with UN Security Council resolutions on its nuclear programme. Iran must show that its programme is entirely peaceful. This decision was taken by EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels today.

At the initiative of the Netherlands and other member states, the European Union has called on the government of Chad to arrest Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir and surrender him to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. President Bashir is suspected of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
