Development Cooperation

Development cooperation is one of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ principal tasks. The Netherlands contributes four billion euros per year towards the development of poor countries around the world. In October 2007, the Netherlands unveiled a new development policy, ‘Our Common Concern: investing in development in a changing world’. It  emphasises more Dutch investment in fragile states and in countries which have the most ground to make up in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. The policy s identifies four priorities. You can download the document in pdf from the link on the right.

The Development Cooperation menu contains translations of the most important information about Dutch development policy. 'Dutch aid policy' in the menu on the left lets you access themes, policy areas and topical issues. 'Partner countries' shows you how much aid the Netherlands gives each country and what that aid is spent on. The Dutch Government also wants to involve civil society organisations, citizens and enterprises in development cooperation. See 'Partners in development' for further details. Some key documents are also available in French and Spanish. For more comprehensive information, please consult the Dutch site.
