Development Cooperation

Development cooperation is one of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ principal tasks. The Netherlands contributes 4.6 billion euros per year towards the development of poor countries around the world and supporting partnerships with civil society organisations, businesses and educational institutions in rich and poor countries. There is widespread support for development cooperation in Dutch society and many people contribute by donating their time or money. Development cooperation is a responsibility not only for governments, but also for the public at large.

The Development Cooperation menu contains translations of the most important information about Dutch development policy. 'Dutch development policy' in the menu on the left contains major policy themes and topical issues. 'Partner countries' shows you how much aid the Netherlands gives each country and what that aid is spent on. The Dutch Government also wants to involve civil society organisations, citizens and enterprises in development cooperation. See 'Partners in development' for further details.
